Five ASICS Sneakers You’ve Been Sleeping On

ASICS GEL-Kayano Trainer 21

We recently created an at-length feature about why we think ASICS is set to have a massive year in 2022. It highlighted how the Japanese brand is slowly taking over all around the world and why it’s the epitome of ‘underground cool’. We’re sure many of you are looking to cash in on the brewing hype, so we’ve curated a list of some of the silhouettes that you’ve (possibly) been sleeping on. Underrated and at times easy to get your hands on, peep five of ASICS’ sleeper hits down below!

ASICS GEL-Venture 7

An under appreciated shoe within the large ASICS catalogue, the GEL-Venture 7 ticks many boxes for those who’re looking to dip their toes into the Tiger Stripe pool. It’s pretty readily available and in a multitude of colourways as well. Even if a GR isn’t to your liking, it was reworked by Kiko Kostadinov as part of their consultancy partnership and was infused with all their signature details.

ASICS GEL-Kayano Trainer 21

A recent addition to the legendary ASICS line, the GEL-Kayano Trainer 21 pays homage to the Kayano heritage and was a recent collaborator with AWAKE NY. Technically a hybrid, it fuses the iconic GEL-Kayano 21 from 2014 with 90s MONO-SOCK tech and can usually be found in premium nubuck builds.

ASICS GEL-Kinsei OG

Eye-catching is an understatement with that GEL-injected heel! First released in 2006, designed by Hisanori Fujita and inspired by Samurai armour, the ASICS GEL-Kinsei is aggressively swaggy. It’s an early-2000s must have that’s sure to up your style game and has been injected with plenty of tech just in case you wanted to take them down the performance route.

ASICS GEL-Quantum 180 6

Sometimes performance shoes aren’t always the most aesthetically pleasing, but there’s something about ASICS' GEL-Quantum line that hits the spot! When paired with the right outfit, the GEL-Quantum 180 6 can bridge the gap between high-tech runner and high-end flex. An example is this Oyster Grey/Ivory joint that’s just so pleasing to look at, and don’t forget you have 180 degrees worth of GEL, so you know it’ll be comfy!

ASICS GEL-KYRIOS

ASICS early-2000s catalogue houses plenty of underrated heat that deserves to be reworked and retroed. A few years back in 2020, they looked to circa 2005-2006 and their GEL-HELIOS model, retouching it and resurrecting it as the newly named GEL-KYRIOS! The OG was kept mostly intact, however was updated slightly and uses tooling from Kiko Kostadinov’s GEL-Kiril, also a 2020 release. If you put them side by side, the sole units look almost identical.
