Five Nike Releases You're Sleeping On (And You Shouldn't Be)

Nike were firing on all cylinders in the lead up to Air Max Day. Limited releases have been dropping left, right and centre, including atmos' 'Animal Pack 2.0,' CDG's Air Max 180 trio and, most recently, Sean Wotherspoon's Air Max 1/97. With so many must-cop sneakers hogging the spotlight, there's more than a few Swoosh standouts that have gone almost unnoticed – and if you pass them up, we reckon you'll regret it.

Air Huarache '91 'Purple Punch'

Why hasn't this sold out yet? 'Purple Punch' is arguably the greatest Air Huarache colourway of all time. Michael Jordan, Michael Johnson and Jerry Seinfeld were all fans on its debut in 1991 and this year's retro is the first time it has ever come back in its original form. In 2016, we saw a half-hearted remake, but looking at 2018's version, there's just no comparison! The materials and branding are as close to the OG as you can get, and they even included a bonus pin for an extra special touch.

Releases like this will determine the fate of future retros. The better they sell, the more we'll see in years to come – so we pray they sell out soon!

Air Max 98 'Cone/Tour Yellow/Hyper Grape'

This is the single greatest sneaker to release this year! In this writer's opinion at least. The colourway is obnoxious, overstated and will clash with every outfit – but that's exactly why they're so good! It's like no other Air Max 98 before it, let alone any other sneaker on the market right now.

If even part of you feels drawn to this make-up, just give in to your urges! They'll be a highly sought-after colourway in years to come. Trust me!

Air VaporMax 97 'Neon'

Fusions have long been a touchy subject in the sneaker scene. Some love them and some hate them. But have nothing but love when it comes to Nike's recent Air VaporMax fusions. The Air VaporMax Plus is a tasty treat, but it's the Air VaporMax 97 in 'Neon' that truly stole our hearts – and we can't believe they're still sitting on shelves! One of the best AM97 colourways sitting atop a jumbo 'Neon' sole unit? Yes, please!

Air Safari OG

In 1987, Tinker Hatfield's Air Safari helped lay the groundwork for Nike’s Sportswear division. Since then, retros have been few and far between. But, to old-school Airheads' delight, Nike brought back the historically significant runner in its original orange and black get-up in early March. The retro is a top-notch recreation of the OG and should not be overlooked. Sadly, with all the fanfare surrounding Air Max Day releases, it made little more than a whimper when it hit shelves and is already gathering dust. Show some respect and poach yourself a pair today!

Nike Air Span II 'White/Dust/Volt'

We never thought we'd see the day that the Air Span II returned to shelves. Unlike the Icarus and Icarus Extra before it, Nike's recent retro of the Air Span II is as faithful to the OG as you can get. Nike have curiously veered away from the OG colourways to bring us new make-ups befitting the shoe's age. This 'Volt' make-up is one of the best, delicately treading the line between cautious and crazy.
