The revelation that Nike are going to appease years of pining for a LeBron retro has turned attention back to King James’ first shoe – the Air Zoom Generation. Most recently, sketches of the inaugural sneaker have surfaced that shed light on the intent behind the design.
Narratives abound in the sketches of the prototypes. Five-pointed crown logos and groups of five stiches on early drafts allude to a time when LeBron was meant to wear a corresponding number. And later, slender designs give way to boxier imaginings of a shoe inspired by LeBron’s Hummer H2 birthday present.
