Rihanna’s Fenty PUMA Creeper caused a lot of stir this year, and now she’s been awarded for it. The accolade comes from Footwear News who deemed the Creeper the Shoe of the Year at their 30th annual Achievement Awards. Rihanna follows in the footsteps of Stan Smith and Kanye West who won the award in 2014 and 2015 respectively, and is the first woman to win the award. Obviously thrilled with the accolade, Rihanna took to Instagram to give thanks.
To God be the Glory 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿!!! What a blessing to be honored with this prestigious award, and to be the first woman receiving "SHOE OF THE YEAR" at #FNAA !! Never could I have imagined the amount of support and love we got from around the world for #THECREEPER !!! Thank you to everyone who represented and made the movement!!! One Love ❤️. #FENTYxPUMA
Given that the sneaker world is a bit of a boy's club at times, it's a pretty big deal for a women's silhouette to take the crown – but it's definitely not unwarranted. Every single drop of Rihanna's Fenty PUMA Creeper has sold out within days, and the model has been worn by nearly every trend setting woman (and the occasional man) looked up to by today's youth. Hopefully the industry takes note of the recognition, and similarly impactful shoes find their way onto shelves in 2017.
