On stage this September at the Semi-Permanent Creative Conference Melbourne, iconic portrait photographer Platon will share his experience of capturing an eclectic mix of presidents, politicians, celebrities and artists and his award winning portfolios for Time Magazine and the New Yorker.
Platon's work is a unique and dynamic cross-section through the cult of fame and power. His subjects are all leaders in their field; including political Heads of State Barack Obama, George W Bush, Vladimir Putin, Muammar al-Gaddafi, Hugo Chavez and Robert Mugabe through to contemporary icons of fame and influence - Vivienne Westwood, Leonard Cohen, Al Pacino, Heath Ledger, George Clooney and David Beckham.
He is best at capturing on film what most people never see and what few photographers can - the essence of a person and who they really are. His work is an extraordinary portrait of power and influence at the highest level.
Platon has contributed to a vast range of international publications including the New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Esquire magazines. In 2008, his cover photograph of Russian Premier Vladimir Putin for Time magazine's Person of the Year was awarded the coveted first prize in the World Press photo contest.
He has also photographed campaigns for Nike, Levis, IBM, Rayban, Issey Miyake, Moschino, Kenneth Cole and Motorola. Platon is now a staff photographer at the New Yorker magazine.
Platon joins an all-star lineup of twelve guest speakers at Semi-Permanent Melbourne this September 23rd and 24th at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Speakers come from a diverse cross-section of creative backgrounds and experience. Each presents a one hour segment in their own unique format to engage and inspire the audience.
Semi-Permanent is the most successful event of its kind in the world. Simply put, it is an annual festival of all things creative - born out of a desire to unite the world's creative communities via a premium event experience.
Semi-Permanent touches down each year in major Australian cities including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, as well as internationally via Auckland, Hong Kong, London, New York, Dubai and Berlin.
Founded by Murray Bell and Andrew Johnstone of Australian design portal Design Is Kinky, Semi-Permanent offers unprecedented access to the most highly respected creative minds on the planet.
The Semi-Permanent lineup has seen counter-culture super heroes such as Banksy, Fafi and Shepard Fairey rub shoulders with mainstream major players like George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic, film industry innovators The Directors Bureau, and Oscar Award winning animation studio Pixar. This September in Melbourne, once again the assembled talent will inspire audiences like no other.
