As if the sweet taste of Olympic victory and a hefty medal wasn't reward enough, adidas-sponsored athletes have got an added bonus to look forward to should they secure a place on the podium – one of the very first pairs of adidas' debut 3D-printed sneaker.

Named the 3D Printed Winners Shoe, the shoe is a Primeknit runner with a web-like 3D printed sole unit and heel counter. The design is reminiscent of the prototypical Futurecraft 3D footwear adidas unveiled at the end of 2015. Surprisingly, the Winners Shoe has been successfully tested and approved for long distance running up to 10km.

For those select athletes sponsored by the Trefoil, a spot on the podium guarantees a pair of these revolutionary kicks, with gold, silver or bronze laces to match their achievement. New Zealand women's rugby player Tyla Nathan-Wong was the first to take home a pair following NZ's silver medal win.
