If you weren’t keeping a keen eye on the Royal Wedding over the weekend, it’s OK — we got you covered. Admittedly, it was looking pretty bleak on the sneaker front, but (unsurprisingly) tennis queen Serena Williams has come through with the goods.
Initially arriving in a pink Versace dress, Serena later swapped into Valentino for the evening proceedings. Known for wearing her sneaker-love on her sleeve (or feet in most cases), she opted for a pair of Valentino sneakers to get her through the night, later revealing she’d been given the pair on the day by the brand’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli.
‘Little known fact: I often wear sneakers under my evening gown,’ she said on Instagram. ‘These [Maison Valentino’s sneakers that Pierpaolo Piccioli] gave to me last min[ute]. I told him be careful I tend to be comfy for long nights.’
We’re not experts when it comes to critiquing Royal Wedding fits, but kudos to Serena for doing her thing. We’re just surprised she didn’t opt for the crystal-laced Nike Cortez she wore to her own wedding.
