German NBA stars Moritz Wagner and Dennis Schröder joined legend Dirk Nowitzki to headline the Nike Basketball Festival Berlin at the Wriezener Karree. The event attracted over 500 attendees, including some of the country’s finest young talent.
The day tipped off with a coaching session curated by Berlin team Türkiyemspor, followed by a meet-and-greet with the players hosted by TV personality Hadnet Tesfai. With many in attendance chasing the NBA dream, the ‘never give up’ mantra was preached throughout the day.
Perhaps the highlight of the event was a Team Moritz vs. Team Dennis all-star game that pitted Mo and Dennis against each other in a coaching battle. With mixed squads squaring off against one another, the competitive spirit was at fever pitch. The NBA stars played alongside the youngsters in the second half and, in a close one, Team Dennis eventually got the W in overtime, 82 to 76.
The game’s halftime show consisted of a special Dirk Nowitzki signature fadeaway contest, with prizes up for grabs. The break also gave Dirk a moment to chat about his career, his future goals, and how the youngsters could follow their own dreams.
