The Converse Renew sustainability initiative will soon be on the front lines when it comes to environmentally-conscious sneakers. Before the official global launch, however, Converse recently opened a special pop-up to better highlight the Renew Canvas.

Held at the centre of sustainability in London — Coal Drop’s Yard in King's Cross — the special concept saw Converse collaborate with schools, students, and projects to ensure that local waste was creatively renewed throughout the space. Plastics were repurposed into unique artworks while Hubbub supplied catch from 'Plastic Fishing' projects conducted in London's rivers and canals. Other plastics were sourced from recycling plants in London and the wood used in the displays was even recycled, reclaimed, and reworked from other sources. The result was the perfect setting for the Renew Canvas kicks, which feature the same look and feel as traditional Converse canvas, but are crafted from 100 per cent recycled polyester from used plastic bottles.

Best of all, though? The concept store will be cleaned with eco-friendly cleaners and all waste will be recycled to ensure the pop-up is low-impact. The store even allowed attendees to pick up the special Chucks ahead of their global launch.

If you missed out, don't worry: you can take a look inside above and you can expect the Converse Renew Canvas to officially launch July 5.
