Breaking Down Nike's Roshe Two

It’s been more than four years since the Roshe One hit the scene and within that time its made quite an impact with its philosophy on footwear design – all killer, no filler. The Roshe One has been tweaked and re-jigged all over the place with mesh, leather, Flyknit, hybrids and slip on versions, you name it. The lords of the Swoosh decided it was time to give the shoe its first big upgrade.

The design philosophy behind the Roshe Two is plush comfort – the shoe was almost named the Roshe Plush. Rather than replace the popular shoe with something entirely different, the team took on a luxury car philosophy, making upgrades to the base design like a car manufacturer does year after year.

One of the first differences you’ll notice when you slip on a Two is the sock-like, one piece upper. In keeping with the current fascination around all things one-piece, the upper has an easy slip-on slip-off style, much like a Sock Dart. A few perforations have been added across the forefoot for added breathability, while a lacing structure swoops across from the heel to give even more security.

The sole has been given a full re-work with the latest Nike tech, taking it to a whole new level of support. A recent innovation allows the designers to fuse together different densities of phylon foam, creating different areas of density for the best cushioning that can be achieved through injection systems.

Everyone’s favourite foot-hugging neoprene was the go to material in the beginning, but so far the young Roshe has been given the Flyknit overhaul and been dipped in leather for the premium vibe. It’s not often that the sequel lives up to the hype but we reckon Nike have done a good job on the refined, lightweight Roshe 2. If you’re not sold on the styling then all you need to do is slip a foot in and feel the comfort take hold.
