In recognition of Kobe Bryant‘s looming retirement, Michael Jordan and the team over at Jordan Brand presented the NBA great with two complete sets of Air Jordans over the weekend, one in all-black and the other in all-white – with the exception of the AJ3 and AJ8, both of which were hit with a dose of Lakers yellow and purp. Both sets were created in Kobe’s size, US 14, and featured every model in the Air Jordan line, from the AJ1 right through to the newly debuted AJXXX. While Kobe’s taking home the all-white set to stash away in his collection, the all-black set went straight to eBay (with MJ’s approval of course!) to raise money for the Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation.
With 30 separate one-of-one Air Jordans, there was no question these were going to go for a pretty penny, and bidding kicked off at a whopping $100,000. After a fierce bidding war between only two unique bidders, one of which was a new member with zero feedback (hmmmmmm…), the auction ended at a staggering USD $240,100! That’s $8k a pair! Sadly we won’t see any of these special make-ups hit stores, but check out the full collection above, minus the AJXXX. We just hope the winning bidder wasn’t trying to stunt and comes through with the goods. After all, this auction’s for charity yo, don’t be playing now!
