Vans team up with premium casual apparel brand Ludwig Van to create the crafty new Deadstock Canvas Pack. Using a stack of 'deadstock' vintage canvas sheets, discovered at an auction over ten years ago, Ludwig Van designer Mike Dytri has turned a simple skate kick into a historical piece of sneaker art. From Cherry Bomb to Jah Stripes, Mary Jane to Psycho, each pair of Ludwig Van Van's comes complete with D-ring belt, shoe bag and flip book wrapped in a limited edition box. If you're lucky you can cop a pair at Ludwig Van's online store come May 1st. In the meantime, watch the video below to get more of an insight into this amazing collaboration. PRESS RELEASE
What do you get when you combine a passion for sneakers with a proclivity for repurposing vintage materials? The Ludwig Van X Vault by Vans Deadstock Canvas Project, which drops on April 8, 2011, is the answer. L.A. based designer, and Ludwig Van impresario, Mike Dytri has turned a cache of decades-old original Vans canvas sheets ("deadstock") purchased at a warehouse sale into his newest collaboration. Working closely with Vans, Ludwig Van created this extremely limited edition collection of only 288 pairs using 14 different patterns. The shoes ship with a D-ring belt, flip book and shoe bag all packaged in a limited edition box. The collection will only be available in five U.S. stores: UNDFT (Los Angeles, CA), Conveyor (Santa Monica, CA), Proper (Long Beach, CA) DQM (New York) and Bows & Arrows (Berkeley, CA). Collette (Paris) and Dover Street Market (London) will carry the shoes in Europe, while the shoes will be released in limited quantities in Japan as well. Background on Ludwig Van, LLC.
Ludwig Van is a premium casual clothing brand for men. It was founded in 2008 by Mike Dytri, emerging from the ashes of Subfreakie (1996-2003), the seminal streetwear brand known for its ingenuity and unique shrink-wrapped T-shirt packaging.
The company is known for using one-of-a-kind deadstock fabrics and incorporating them into special one-off releases. Ludwig Van has used military canvas, vintage fleece and denim as well as unique WWII-era hardware on a variety of their fashions.
At Ludwig Van, innovation and creativity rule. Think Miles Davis' Bitches Brew versus Beethoven's Ninth Symphony...with a bit of the old ultraviolence thrown in.
