VANS JAPAN PREVIEW

The interweb means that nowadays we’re all pretty savvy when it comes to the freshest big-name colabs coming out of Japan. It can be a little harder though to get a sense of what people in the land of the rising sun are rocking on a more day-to-day basis. If we teleported you into the heart of Tokyo right now you’d be seeing wall-to-wall Vans… but not the canvas skate casuals that are their bread and butter in the West.

Vans Japan’s ‘Court Sneaker’ range has some very obvious influences… there’s a touch of Nike Terminator, flashes of the Nike Court Force and Nike AF1 plus some crunchy AJ III crackle. It all shows just how insulated the Japanese market can sometimes be from outside fashion trends. While Vans is riding high around the world on the current canvas vulc boom, in Japan it has re-tooled its lineup to adapt to a market where the sneaker is still king of the streets. These images all come from ABC Mart, Japan’s number one chain of sneaker supermarkets…
