The Japanese Rising Sun symbol is still one of the strongest nationalist graphics in the world today. It was used on navy ships in the Japanese Army and in their native tongue is called “Hi-no-maru” or “sun disc”. You are probably more familiar with it from the poignant scene in “Karate Kid” where Mr Miyagi presents a Hi-no-maru bandana to Daniel san who then goes on to kick some serious butt.
