Solebox is up to no good again. This time they have teamed up with Puma to produce a clyde, which proceeds from sales are going into a fund to save a snake...called 'Dadas'.
We intervied the mastermind of this project - the one and only Hikmet - and we asked him a few things about snakes on a shoe....
So tell us a little about this shoe…
I worked for 34 years on this project. We developed new materials to make this shoe happen. The Inspiration came when a snake bit me……
Sounds great but that’s not the truth. The idea behind these shoes, is to open your eyes.
It is NOT necessary to kill exotic animals to use their skin/hide. There are so many possibilities using fake materials which are really close to the real thing. We should respect all living things. I am not an animal protector, but hey…we should over do it to fill the hype.
I’m sure there are lotsa other animals you could sponsor. Why the snake?
A hedgehog would have been awesome...but it would probably be uncomfy.
Nah - the reason for the snake is because it is used heavily in the industry.
What makes the Berlin Zoo so special compared to all the other zoos?
I’ve never been to any other Zoos…! ; )
I grew up in Berlin. We did not have XBOX’s or Playstations or WII’s..
We played outside, met friends, went to the Zoo.
Ahh. We went to the local zoo heaps too when we were young. Have you heard about/been to the Singapore Night Safari?
A friend told me about it. He said he came pretty close to some bats? Do you know more…?
Yeah. When I heard ‘Night Zoo’ I thought it was just a few bats and insects. I was so wrong. I have seen more animals at that night zoo than I have any other zoo during the day. You should check it out sometime.
What pets do you have?
A turtle. Emma is her name.

Not at home. I think it is better, to leave exotic animals to the specialists.
But we have adopted a snake. That is the story behind the Puma x Solebox Clyde: Save Dadas! (name of the snake). All the profits of this project goes into saving Dadas.

A much discussed man. I think he achieved what he wanted to achieve. He opened the eyes of many people and was/is known worldwide for his controversial actions. He gave all of us a view we never saw before to the animals. Was it a fitting end for him? It would make a great movie…
I agree. Is there a German version of Steve Irwin? And if so, who is he/she?
There is a guy named Bernhard Grzimek. A German legend. He cared about the Wild Animals of Africa. In 1960 he won an Oscar for his documentation. He was in the same category as Jacques Cousteau.
If there was one animal in the world you could save from extinction, what would it be and why?
Dadas our adopted snake ; ) … and maybe Sonic the Hedgehog.
