REEBOK R.A.D. MID

In 1987 Rick Astley was Never Gonna Give You Up, Guns N' Roses released their debut LP, Paul Lekakis invited us to go boom-boom-boom back to his room and Reebok released the bodacious R.A.D! (which stands for Reebok Advanced Design). The shoes came with a tongue-in-cheek warning not to exceed the speed of light or they may disintegrate, which is even more potently humorous nowadays given the standard-issue outlaw skate posture.
It’s understandable that this shoe generates a lot of ‘comment’ as it’s something of a soft target that wears its heart on its sleeve. Some people don’t like rubber nipples on their shoes either which is fair enough but it’s obviously pitched at the young end of the market and you can’t deny the R.A.D’s unbridled sense of joie de vrie. It is what it is... a curiosity that has been brought back from extinction for us all to enjoy. You can hardly blame Reebok in the late eighties, they were trying their hardest to keep the momentum going after the wild success of their Freestyle High and looking at the skate industry must have been a natural move.
No idea if these are the OG colours but they are set to make a comeback on the streets this July/August and will definitely take you Back To The Future quicker than you can say Biff goes the weasel. Also available in a low-top.
