With the Freestyle and Ex-O-Fit on fire, Reebok added heat to the craze by splashing their trademark garment leather over the Classic Runner. It was a subtle shoe that happily played the casual card over performance, with the 1983 catalogue recommending it as being both ‘functional and fashionably classic’. The distinctive flying wedge midsole was appealing enough, but once again it was the all-white leather version which kept cash registers ticking over. Released a decade before runners became complicated and overly technical, it’s the utter simplicity of the Classic Leather that is still striking.
