As part of the ‘Brazil Custom Series’, Nike Brazil along with Nike SB have collaborated with skaters Cezar Gordo, Fabio Cristiano and Rodrigo Petersen to present this collection of limited edition Nike SB Dunks, utilizing a running theme of music. Delving deep into the history of skate to find an iconic marriage with the sport, the skaters along with the design team had a light bulb moment! The humble Walkman, which has sadly been superseded by the troublesome Ipod, was the only way to rock your dome back in the day, so what better way to celebrate its history with skate culture than to reinterpret it on a collection of Nike SB Dunks. The basic elements of the old Walkman are: the box, the earphones and the cassette. Each of the skaters chose the part with which they identified the most: Rodrigo Petersen chose the box of the old yellow Walkman as inspiration to create his model. Cezar Gordo selected the earphones as a source of creation, while the audio cassette was chosen by Fabio Cristiano to compose his work.
Fabio Cristiano, aka Chupeta chose the audio cassette as the object representing music to inspire his creation of the Dunk. Rewind to a time when your mixtape would get caught in the spindles of the Walkman. The panic of losing that much loved cassettte and forever ruining and splitting the brown silky tape had us running to get a pencil and wind that goodness back to perfection. It is these memories that have inspired Chupeta to grace his Nike SB with unwound audio cassette tape on the upper in a dope mixture of black, purple, pink and gold. In the outsole, his signature is a reference to the descriptions written by hand made mixtapes, playing with a merge of his initials FC (Fabio Cristiano) and K7 (pronounced 'cassette' in Portuguese), resulting in the acronym 'FKC7 Mix T.' And to top it off there is an illustration showing the classic rewinding of the tape using a pencil on the insoles. Limited to 480 pairs worldwide and featuring a tie in t-shirt, check for these to drop Nov 13th from all good SB accounts. REEEEWWIND!
