Despite its familiar no-fuss appearance, the New Balance 574 Clips Pack is innovative on a number of levels. Firstly, each shoe has been constructed from leftover clippings salvaged from New Balance’s US factory in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Whereas the 574 is typically made from cow suede, the Clips pack will feature grey pig suede sourced from the 993 plus four coloured meshes collected from the 996. But what makes each shoe truly unique is that all 480 pairs have had a short film made about them, chronicling their journey from factory floor to store. The 'clips' are currently on show at www.574clips.com.
An individually numbered poloroid photo included in each shoe box allows the purchaser to match their shoe with its movie, and by entering this number online you get to add your name to the end of your shoe's clip. All very clever isn't it? Out this September, the 574 Clips will retail at USD $75.00 at ten top US retailers including Reed Space, Undefeated, Bodega and Goods.
