Common Projects is a New York brand focusing on high end mens sneakers. Started a couple of years ago as a collaboration between designers Prathan Poopat and Flavio Girolami and reaping great success and recognition already. Prarthan, an industrial and graphic designer, is known for his work with Visionaire and V Magazine and also as an art director for luxury brands in NYC. Flavio, a well known consultant for creative agencies that work with many Italian brands. According to Prathan "We see beauty in things man made and have an appreciation for things made well". The design philosophy of Common Projects emphasises form, which sticks to the basics, function, which is undoubtedly utilitarian and materials, which are always luxe. Most of the trainers take inspiration from classic tennis styles re-worked to give them a used, vintage look. The branding is anonymous, the only embellishment being the project article number, size and colour code stamped in gold on the heel. Each Common Project is considered to be a creative experiment, crafted from the finest 100% Italian Nappa leather.
