LAKAI X ABC

ABC is a NZ Skate/ Street brand originally started in 2000 by Chey (known to most Kiwis as the Michael Jordan of skate culture). Having garnered a massive following and collaborating with NZ stores such as Palmerston’s Native Soup, the brand hooked up with Lakai to produce this clean, streamlined kick.

When we asked Chey about the smiley face on the side of the heel, he explained, “The face icon I used on the heel and insole we had a little bit of trouble with. I used that image on some tees and skateboard decks about three months prior. I was called by a lady wanting to sue me for the unlawful use of the image! Turns out it is the logo of a supermarket chain over here in NZ called Four Square. The lady had bought the rights to use the icon for merchandise such as tees etc. So after a few meetings, we managed to cut a deal with her and avoided going to jail ha ha! There is a lesson to learn here! Yes I have learnt it. I must mention thanks to mrfoursquare.co.nz as well”.

The ABC website just launched so hit up www.abccuz.com for more information and worldwide stockists of ABC proddy. Available at Loaded Auckland & Wellington, Mufti.
