Limited Editions
blog by samueled 17th May 2008I was just wondering what everyones opinion was on all these limited edition sneakers at the moment. Ive been collecting trainers for a good few years now and have a nice varied collection but i speak to other collectors and all they are interested in is the newest Nike Sb's and how rare they are. Myself I just like to get the nicest sneakers i can, if they are rare or just standard issue it doesnt bother me. Id rather have an original pair of say Rod Lavers than a Tiffany Dunk.
Does anyone else share this line of thinking? Id be interested to hear other peoples opinions?

i work as a designer, hence design quality is important to me. as with the fact that personal preferences applies as well. i'm more interested in hi-tops.
back to the issue, even if it's dubbed as a limited release, if it looks garish then there's no way i'm gonna cop it.
We have a fledgling scene in comparison to elsewhere in the world, a lot of people here are happy with a fresh collection of standards or minor league editions!
There are obviously heads out for limiteds and getting them through international contacts and re-sellers but a lot of us just find what we can when we can, we have a sh1tty exchange rate so it gets mad expensive for us, on top of that, a lot of guys I know have been collecting for a year or less so less than twenty pairs is still a coolection!
That being said I do come across gems in clearance sales or outlets from time to time for way cheaper than the dollar prices I see online, for example I see vintage series superstars for $150 plus and then come across them in our adidas outlet for the equivalent of $50 which is great but still expensive for us...
I feel like a scene could be more pure in it's fledgling stages when it really is about shoes turnign your friends heads as opposed to limited runs and price tags!
