PUMA kicks off the international Clyde exhibition tour in Melbourne on Thursday 2nd of November at the Puma Concept Store, 514 Chapel Street South Yarra. The exhibition will be on show for four days only as part of its 23 non-stop tour to commemorate the iconic Clyde sneaker.
During the past three decades, the PUMA Clyde has been embraced by street culture and remains a timeless classic. Celebrating the re-launch of the shoe, the tour will focus on the actual shoe along with its cousin, the PUMA Suede.
The Clyde is arguably one of the most beloved and significant shoes from PUMA’s past and has been a part of contemporary sneaker culture since its inception in 1973. The first signature basketball sneaker created, the Clyde was a custom tailored version of the popular PUMA Suede, designed for basketball legend Walt “Clyde” Frazier. Nicknamed “Clyde,” as a reference to Bonnie and Clyde, Frazier was a pioneer for becoming a style icon both on and off the court during his all-star career.
In organizing the exhibition, we asked some of Clyde’s oldest friends and fans to share their stories and personal treasures. The showcase will feature memorabilia, photo displays along with relevant music references to the scenes that embraced the Clyde through the years.
The gallery exhibition will tour the world and make a total of 23 stops in Sweden, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Italy, United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Brazil and the U.K.
Each product housed under the “From the PUMA Archive” program will be a re-issue from PUMA’s storied sport lifestyle history. The re-released product will be a combination of exact replicas and Color or material updates in order to capture the essence of the original. The recent re-issue of the PUMA Clyde features original color ways along with a selection of new color combinations.
The range is available at Puma Concept Stores and select retailers from July. For further stockist details call 1800 811 511.
