While researching the design of the Nike Shox Saya+, footwear designer Steven Smith found that many Japanese runners focus much of their weight in the forefoot, a gait influenced by Toshihiko Seko, a Japanese long-distance runner and world-class marathon competitor in the 1980s. Partnering with fellow designer Matt Holmes, Steven created the Nike Shox Saya+, designed for runners with more forefoot needs. Initially intended specifically for the Japanese market, the design of the Nike Shox Saya+ drew inspiration from the specific needs of runners in Tokyo. Steven and Matt made several iterations of possible designs. Impressed with the direction of this revolutionary Nike Shox running shoe, the design was adopted to the global marketplace. The Saya is one of the lightest and highest-performing shoes in the Nike Shox line. The Nike Shox Saya+ is engineered to be light, low, and flexible enough for fast runners without compromising full-length cushioning from heel to toe. Inspired by the Nike Zoom Forever track spike, the shoe's simple, modern look, with its minimal mesh overlays, results in a lower and lighter running shoe. Fifty-two pucks have been strategically placed in the strike zone for the forefoot runner. A plate located between the Nike Shox and the upper helps to redistribute the load onto the pucks. The Nike Shox Saya+ is also enabled to incorporate Nike+ so vital data about your run, such as speed and distance, can be transmitted to an Apple Nano during your run.
