Definitive Colourways

I decided to break out my bordeux Jordan VIIs today for the first time, my first and only VIIs, and it got me thinking. Not all of us have the luxury of picking up every colourway that drops, sometimes you just need to limit yourself to only one, but which should you choose?

Black Cement for the 3s? White cement for the 4s? Black/infrared for the 6s? Aqua 8s? Concord XIs? Last Shot XIVs? Should you get the XVIIs in the White/Blue for the Wizards or Red/White for the Bulls?

Why limit it to just Jordans though, some colourways are as classic as the models themselves.... Chlorophyll Trainer 1s? Dee Brown Pumps? White on white Air Force 1s? White/Black Shelltoes?..... Hell is there any sneaker colourway more famous than the ol' Infrared 90s?

With so many different releases in so many different colours, what would you choose as the definitive (or even just the best if you think a retro did it better) colourway/version to represent some of sneaker history's all-time classics?

Re: Definitive Colourways

AM90 = Infrared
AM95 = Neon
AM97 = Silver3M
AMBW = Persian
More Uptempo = Black/White
Mowabb = that bone/pale colourway
AT1 = Chlorophyll

back in the day, shoes (at least in perth) were often only released in only one or two colourways. at least the first year. they might have come back the next year in a different colour.

i'll prob think of some more later, but i should be working

Re: Definitive Colourways

just because i found this interesting, and didnt want to spend all day scrolling back and forth, i started adding the suggested shoes onto a google document.

click here to edit it

it's almost a safe assumption that, for older shoes at least, that the first released colourway would be the default. this theory falls down with some of the more recent jordan releases though.

Re: Definitive Colourways

yeah, for me it is usually prefer the 1st release colourway.

ANd i think (Nike) have lost something from releasing so many colours of new shoes eg the last air max that was released in 3 colours each for mens and womens, plus the livestrong and more to come, it kinda dilutes it.

but i'll add a few
af2 - white/navy
revolution - white/navy
air ship - white/natural
vortex - blute/gold
epic - grey (hahah)
1500 - og grey
996 - grey
998 - grey
99... ok ALL 99x series grey!
1300 - that blue colour
AT SC - medicine ball
ATIII SC - orange

I would argue that J1 is red/white/black...

there are exceptions, ATII sc both the infrar and lime define it.

^^^ This ^^^

I think the first colourway I see is the one I will link the shoe back to.
If the original colourway doesn't get your attention, the shoe is behind the 8ball from the jump. So it's usually that first impression that sticks.
