I'm serious, I haven't got the faintest idea.
I have over a hundred pairs, but when it comes to buying a pair online I never know what I should order.
I've always said I was a size 13, but then lately I bought some dress shoes recently and just noticed before that they are a size 11! Hell I double sock those mofos for the perfect fit and they're comfy as hell.
My collection's mainly 12s and 13s. Some pairs I have in a size 12 like my AJXIVs are excruciatingly tight but then my Infrared pack in a 12 feels loose even. I've got a whole lot of 13s that feel the right size just to make matters more complicated
Hell, just to make things even more difficult, there's even a pair or two of size 14s in there for good measure!
So I guess my question is, what's the best way of working out your true fit?
Sometimes I'll admit I've tried a pair on in store and they've felt right, but once I've got home and relaced they feel loose. Is it best to try a shoe with laces completely removed?
I'm sick of this shit, someone tell me my foot size!

I've been having this problem too latley... In the beginning I bought some Adidas Centenial Mids and Court Force Hi's in size 11 and thought they fit well, maybe a little room to move about. Then when I started buying AM's I found myself buying a lot of 10.5's thinking they fit a lot better.
Recently I've been grabbing J retros like III's and IV's in 11 and when I wear them it feels like I've been going for a swim. Even more recently I've started picking up NB 1500's in 10 and believe they fit perfectly.
I think I should start down sizing when it comes to Nike/J's.

have you tried just measuring your foot? and then going off the jp sizing? and depends how padded the shoes are inside, you'd adjust accordingly?

i've had this problem lately too
moving to less sneaker/trainer purchases, bought a pair of casual leather dr.martens in US9 and they too fscking small
mmm faux croc leather couldnt resist. cant wear them, re$ell now & CBF doing that anytime soon.
also depends on socks too!?
no socks, go raw: bare stinky foot.
girly ballerina sockets
think anklets
thin business socks
thick sports socks & etc
but I reckon my range is size is US8.5 to US10
depending on make, model and brand.
but mid centre US9 works well for me now
do feet shrink when we get older?
and feet grow as we younger, bam! wham! puberty hits and our feet grow?
then people with wonky feet: Left is US11 and right is a US12!
ah size always matters *sigh*

The length of your elbow to your wrist!

depends on the shoes TBH, different brands have different width/fit - even different models from same company
I range from a US9.5 to US11

Do your knuckles drag along the ground treeizzle?
Aside from width of the shoe, I reckon insoles + lining play a big part in sizing too. In most Nike runners I fit a 9us (8uk) but with adidas stuff I find myself sizing up to 9.5us (9uk for adidas). SB dunks I like to wear at least a 10 because of the padding, yet it doesn't feel like I'm swimming. I have quite a number of sz 10s in my stash, some fit fine thanks to padding but others are a bit of a swim. I have two pairs of 11s as gifts and they do not get much wear
To put a spanner in the works, Athlete's Foot says I am a 9.5us and my left foot is just slightly longer than my right foot, which I can confirm as I get slight contact at the front of the left shoe when I tried on a pair of 9.5us Mizunos at the store.
The trying on without lacing thing doesn't really work imo, since tying your shoes is about locking down planar/dorsi flexion and you'd want to know how the shoes fit when you're walking around rather than just standing in them. But I guess without laces is a good indicator of whether your foot fills the shoe or not..some shoes are just not compatible with our feet - when I was about 11, before I got into sneakers I really wanted a pair of Puma Monstros, but upon trying on a pair my feet just never really got along with them and I sucked it up

many years ago i strike a conversation with a local cobbler in campsie who used to be a traditional shoemaker in the UK and worked at the NB factory as well in relation to shoe sizing. this is how he explained to me.
traditionally shoemakers measure the length of your foot and use a "last" to wrap the materials around it to build a shoe. so the shoe size of dress shoes, boots, in a way is the length inside ie footbed INSOLE.
sneakers started this way too but shoemakers realised the feet have to have room to "move" or "expand" in each footstrike because of the impact to the ground in doing athletic activities. additionally comfort and cushioning are added to the mix so more materials are needed plus not to mention the wearer's thicker socks. to compensate these factors the footbed or insoles are widened and lengthened a tad bit for movement. while the outsole (where the insole resides on top) has to be bigger than the insole to accommodate for extra materials. so in a way for sneakers it is the length outside ie OUTSOLE.
thats how he explained it to me in simplest practical way. as a guide. non sneakers dress shoe is insole sizing. sneakers its outsole sizing. dont know if true but it makes sense.
as for why a size difference in say, jordan shoes. by experience its more on the shape first followed by padding.
if the back heel (x) is angled more like in aj4, sizing wise, its bigger than aj3.
if the toe box (y) is squarish like aj4cdp than slope like 99aj4 then 99 sizing is bigger than cdp.
if ankle area is heavily padded like 99aj4 then 99 sizing is bigger.
=k=

Ah bro k with the science of shoe sizing
I've just been trying on a lot of pairs lately and feeling like they're way too big. Maybe it's just the cold weather though? Either that or my feet are shrinking!
Now to just ensure I don't get a pair of Mags in the wrong size hahaha

My collection ranges from 11 to 13. It's ridiculous. What really pisses me off, is when the same size in the same model fits differently.

I've been a 13 since a teen, and gradually started buying some 12 in stuff I couldn't find in that size. Recently discovered that in an ideal world, all my pairs would be a 12.5
dress shoes though, like you said Matt, I'm an 11.Thats why i wear all black reebok pumps to work lol

I've generally worn size 12 since I was 16 (wearing Nike almost exclusively). But if I were to wear a size 12 NB 577 for example, my foot would be swimming.
I think my left foot is also slightly larger than my right, which complicates things further.

This is quite irritating. the 13s that I bought in 2004 size 13 fit perfectly with a .5 inch of space but the 13s that I bought in 2011 size 13 are a lil tight... it make no sense that the price goes up put the quality keep goin down..SMH

I'm the same. US12 in Nike, sometimes I can pull off an 11.5
But with other brands I can range from a 11 to a 13, it's ridiculous.

I think it's mainly pissing me off buying limited releases online. So sick of getting them only to find they're in completely the wrong size. Normally too worried that the 12 will be too small so I always end up buying 13s.

Yeah, your larger foot is the opposite to your dominant hand.
Because it is used as the base for all your power moves.
Throw a ball with your right hand, lead with left foot.
Pull a rope, push off with left foot.
Get down in the starting blocks, left foot leads.

dress shoes tend to always fit a little bigger, especially since most stores stock uk sizes rather than us, and most have no idea until you ask them about it and they go check.
