WALT 'CLYDE' FRAZIER x PUMA FEATURE

In terms of pop culture, it was an amazing period in New York at that time... Would kids have still idolised him and the shoe if he was drafted by another city?

NG: They might have had a chance in LA or Chicago, but I doubt it. NYC was the nation’s style centre then, so his impact would have been blunted if he’d played elsewhere. When he got traded to Cleveland in the late ‘70s the Clyde sneaker quickly lost its cachet.

And finally, the Clyde doesn’t end with Manhattan does it? How did it end up in Europe being worn by soccer casuals, northern soulers, jazzers and skaters?
NG: As I said earlier there are very few pieces of footwear as deeply fly as the Clyde. The look of that sneaker, when matched with the right tracksuit and hat, made such a powerfully elegant statement that you could spot someone blocks away sporting Clydes. Many have copied but few have captured its sexiness. That is a quality that has transcended geography and made the Clyde an international brand. After all, cool is cool no matter what language is being spoken.

Thanks for your time Nelson...

Great to talk with you.
