WALT 'CLYDE' FRAZIER x PUMA FEATURE

The States and Baskets are very similar, why did they have different names? Was it simply the leather and the suede finishes?

Yes. The Basket is a leather version of the Clyde or State, as it is known in the UK. The suede material gave the Clyde a more luxury personality, it was showier. The original Basket also had a different outsole profile from the Clyde. The hightops were in the ‘80s and the mids came out in 1985.

And finally, PUMA has produced several other classic basketball shoes like the Slipstream, Awesome and Sky II... Why did PUMA drift away from basketball??

The dynamics of the market just changed with the introduction of the Air Jordan, a new global player emerging on the scene focused on the sport of basketball. As a brand, football was always our number one sports category and remains to this day. This is where our strength and heritage lies even though we have made iconic shoes in other sports like basketball.

Thanks for your time Antonio...

Great to talk with you.
