WACKY LACES - WORLD'S CRAZIEST SNEAKERS!

NIKE AIR CARNIVORE
1995

Unique, ugly, weirdass, unfit for public
consumption... the Air Carnivore is
admired by a glorious few for its
outrageously handsome ‘good’ looks.
Another graduate of the early-90s
school of madcap design, the Carnivore
utilised a towering neoprene ‘dynamic-fit’
exoskeleton with multiple ‘anti-inversion
ankle straps’ and a large buckle to fix
the shoe to the foot in lieu of laces. As the
Carnivore ad said at the time, it also had
‘some other stuff that’s kind of technical!’

Cross trainers from this era generally
followed the traditional white leather
upper with forefoot-strap template, but
the Carnivore will forever be associated
with a meaty combo of black nubuck with
purple and teal green pops. The jungle
print on the midsole and aggressive title
have some claiming a Jurassic Park film
influence, which was coincidentally
released in the same year. True or false,
this prehistoric dinosaur of a boot lives on.
Ironically its synthetic upper qualified for
vegetarian status. No cows were killed
to make this tasty Carnivore!
