AIR RIFT
1995
Originally developed for the Kenyan running
team, the Air Rift was designed to offer the
beneficial elements of running barefoot with
the comfort and durability of a sports shoe.
Who needs the additional weight of shoelaces
when you’ve got an elastic strap around your
ankle? Cut-out areas allowed the foot to breathe
and once again shaved off crucial weight. The
sole may look chunky, but it’s the camel-toe
that is worthy of note. With a ‘mitten style’, the
big toe sits in its own section away from the
other toes. Special socks designed in a similar
style were required.
Since its inception in 1995, multiple colourways
have followed the original Kenyan black, green
and red combination. Particularly popular as a
women’s shoe, it has understandably become
a staple summer sneaker for many.
