2009 - BEST OF THE BEST SNEAKERS

SARAH JANE OWEN - SYDNEY
JORDAN 1 'ICEY PACK'

I’m a bit of a girly-girl in the hoochiest way possible, and I rock my kicks all femmed up too. I’ve collected Reebok Freestyles for ages and love them because of their simplicity, comfort, slimline silhouette and dope selection of colours. I’m scared of patterns and prints and steer clear at all times!

This year was a massive one for us ladies with loads of purpose-built ‘girl’ kicks dropping, like the Nike Gladiator Sandal and Skinny Dunk for the thinner female foot. But I pretty much hated them all, and surprisingly, my pick for the year – that’s made me cheat on my Frees – is a chunkier men’s styled shoe. The Jordan 1 ‘Icey’ Pack blew my mind in a pretty patent baby pink and had me popping my Jordan cherry in ‘09!

The cute-ass colour was what really caught my eye, as did the shiny lacquered finish. I love patent because it’s so easy to keep clean and I like to wear all the trainers I cop rather than keeping them boxed up. I actually blogged about these when they were released back in April, but as expected, they were never stocked down under so I never scored them locally.

Having not worn Jordan before meant I was reluctant to buy them off the net so I stopped fantasizing about all the outfits I’d wear them with. But we were clearly destined for each other and it was definitely fate that brought us together. I was in NY and randomly walked into a dodgy looking sneaker shop on Marcey Avenue in BK and there they were – in my size! So I copped them and rocked them out fresh the next night at The Cool Kids show.
