2009 - BEST OF THE BEST SNEAKERS

Picking a shoe as your best of the year that you wouldn't cop personally may seem a little strange, but most of the sneakers I buy now are for my boys Dejan, Danye and Deontaye. So I took the advice of the person whom I think is without a doubt the coolest person on the planet - My 5 year old son Danye.

And I don't mean coolest kid, I mean coolest person. Maybe I am swayed by the fact that out of the three of them, he is the one who I happen to share the same interests with. He listens to Outkast in the car every morning, he cracks up at Larry David jokes, he borrows my hats when he gets himself dressed, and he digs his AJF IVs.

So much so he decided to take them, in the box, to his literacy presentation at his pre-school. The other kids brought books, flyers, brochures (toys aren't allowed) and anything they could talk to the class about. Danye took his AJF 4's. Fair enough. The silhouette of the greatest sneaker ever made, now with the chunky AF1 sole? How can he go past that? Style and practicality combined. Look good while grabbing them cookies you couldn't reach with a pair of Volleys. Get props while just being tall enough to get on the Wild Mouse at Luna Park, hit on older girls at the playground. A whole new world of possibilities have opened up thanks to this fusion.
