PUMA ARGENTINA

1978 was a year of flux; politically, musically and culturally. The musical revolution of punk now branched out into new directions and fused with art-rock, reggae, funk and even disco. The charts may have been dominated by Saturday Night Fever and Grease tunes but a new sound was emerging, one that didn’t play by the old tribal rules. This was a place where Giorgio Moroder met Gregory Isaacs, where Talking Heads met Two Tone, where Kraftwerk met The Clash.

The sound of 78 and the look of 78 marked a new beginning. 1978 was just as much about Archie Gemmill’s awesome goal against the Dutch as it was Bertoni’s eventual extra time winner against the same team. It was about listening to The Buzzcocks and Chic and finding them both equally worthy of your adoration. It was about finding a spec on the terraces with your mates and checking out the new threads on display.

It was puberty and Thatcher and five hours of vollies and headers‚ in the garages. It was, in short, bliss!
