PUMA x MTV RAPS COLLECTION

WE’RE KICKIN’ IT OLD SCHOOL
PUMA celebrates YO! MTV Raps with this limited edition project!
Fans will remember when hip-hip was first brought to the mainstream with the seminal show 'YO! MTV Raps'. The popular program featured the fathers of the Golden Age of Hip-Hop and we can now announce that PUMA will honor these artists with a collection of fresh apparel and shoes in typical PUMA style.
Based on the signature Clyde silhouette, four limited edition styles specific to each of the artists will be released. As you can see in this visual feature, Doctor Dre and Ed Lover’s Clydes feature multi-colored laces, a snake-skin stripe and has their names tagged on each heel. The tongues also commemorate the era with 1988; the year that the show started, and 1995; the year the show ended prominent. The lime and purple sock liner is taken from the hard-to-get Forever Fresh Clyde, which marked the first collaboration between PUMA and MTV.
Doug E. Fresh, (aka The Worlds Greatest Entertainer) takes his inspiration from his song “All the Way to Heaven”. The title appears on the sock liner, with gray and blue clouds covering the body. Big Daddy Kane was one of the first rap artists to take on the suave pimp persona, and his shoes exemplify that. They feature a black patent PUMA form stripe, patent leather detailing, and an embroidered image of his signature gold chain. A black hoodie with initials ‘BDK’ adorn the front, while Big Daddy Kane is written across the back.
MC Shan broke through in 1983 as part of his cousin’s “Marl’s Juice Crew All Stars”. His classic hit “The Bridge” is the reference, the shoe featuring the Queensborough Bridge. Mixing pairs was Shan’s trademark, and to pay homage to him, PUMA has designed his shoes in different colours – one red, one blue, with a white patent leather PUMA form stripe. The look is completed with a zip-up top and red bucket hat, honoring the original PUMA gear featured on Shan’s album cover ‘Down by Law’!
In addition to the MTV Raps Artist collection, PUMA will launch five additional PUMA Suede colorways inspired by the era. These will be more widely available at PUMA Concept Stores globally... check with your local store for availability and dates.
