HOW TO OPEN A SNEAKER STORE

CREATING A BRAND

ClassicKicks: We think that it is better for us to carry classic brands and styles rather than create our own line.

Goliath: I think it is best to let the store build the brand. I always wanted to do tees that corresponded to recent sneaker releases to aid in accessory sales. It’s just like selling a camera. You buy a camera, you have to buy film too. You buy sneakers, you have jeans, jackets, and shirts to go along with them.

Motive807: I think it would be easier to have your store and then do a label to reflect the store. DQM is a prime example of that, they opened a store and had their clothing line directly reflect the concept of the store.

Alife Rivington: By having a store first you are able to learn from the mistakes other brands make, but by having a brand first (in other stores), you are able to learn from mistakes other stores make. As far as what’s easier, starting your own small brand is probably cheaper because anyone can start a t-shirt line and build from there.
