HOW TO OPEN A SNEAKER STORE

PERKS AND PAINS

Goliath: One of the main problems for me was getting the first month’s traffic up. We had a silent opening, so there wasn’t any press or publicity. It’s hard for one person to do it all. There is so much running around to do every day. On the other hand, I love to go to parties and see people with clothes they bought from my store.

Premium Goods: There weren’t too many problems while opening up the boutique. We just found the space and got it poppin’. The hardest part is knowing what to buy. Being able to move general releases can be tricky. Some of your stuff might also be in Foot Locker on sale for two for one. The best part is that I am doing what I want to do. I work the hours I want, I open when I want, I close when I want and I am my own manager.

DQM: Other than the random people who kept taking shits on our stairwell, we really did not have too many problems. Being in the store every day is the hardest. Even on your day off, you gotta work. It is not as easy as it seems, but being your own boss is great. At the end of the day, you know that you have worked hard. In the past, others reaped the benefits of our hard work, now we do.

Motive807: The hardest thing I ran into was getting a location. There were days I would get so pissed off because Texans did not understand my concept and wouldn’t sign me up for a lease. But things worked out and fortunately I am now open.
