AIR MAX 90 CURRENT
This is Nike’s most recent, and definitely most radical custom job to date. Better known as a hybrid, this new style of shoes are literally made from mixing and matching different models, sometimes wildly across genres and sports. The best hybrids create an entirely new genre, with a visual impact that is far greater than the sum of its parts. In this case we have three shoes rolled into one – the chunky airbag from an AM90 needs no introduction – the NSW design team then added the flexible forefoot from a Nike FREE, with the curvaceous mesh toe area a direct nod to the Air Current, with its neoprene construction. As Nike Sportswear Design Director Jesse Leyva says, “We are now able to do what we couldn’t in 1990, make this legendary shoe even lighter, more comfortable, and more stable. Every element has a purpose and makes the shoe better.”
