The retro craze is full of paradoxes. On the one hand its great to see old classics, but on the other it drags up memories cash starved collectors might be more willing to forget. Seeing the odd rare shoe on eBay for $500 is a lot easier to say no to than a flood of retros at a fraction of the price. A lot of collectors don’t believe in half measures either - collecting Air Jordans means aquiring at least one of every version. Air Max? Same deal.
Nike began retroing the Air Trainer series in 2003 and so the game starts anew. You’ve got a fresh pair of Air Trainer IIIs but where are some Is and IIs to round out the set? And where do those Bo Jackson SCs fit in? Whether you are hooked on the trainer game or are just interested in history, Sneaker Freaker’s research team has been hard at work to bring you this retrospective. Forgive us if the some dates are wonky or some models are missing.
We must point out that much has been lost to the ravages of time. Hopefully Nike will re-enter their vaults and bring more of these gems back - you’ll be ready if they do...
