NIKE ACG FEATURE - PART ONE

ANDREA CORRADINI INTERVIEW
Fair enough! You guys must feel pretty chuffed that Considered started as an ACG project and has now become central to Nike policy?
Honestly, it’s an honor. It’s all about doing the right thing. We will continue to push the boundaries of Considered in ACG, because we’re dedicated to it. Look at what running’s done with the new Air Pegasus. And the Jordan XX3? Insane. Considered models will run across just about every Nike category this spring from soccer to our entry level running shoes. It’s what we do.
I love the Ashiko boot. Was it a particularly difficult project?
There is no way to talk about it without giving props to Peter Fogg. This is a perfect example of what we do best – taking innovation to places no one thought possible. Flywire was used on a track spike, then a road running shoe, then a basketball shoe. Why not in a boot? The outsole is aggressive, yet low profile, with ascending and descending traction and sticky rubber. The lines of the midsole are super clean – inspired by the Son of Lava Dome tooling from years back. But instead of an EVA wedge, it’s phylon. Air in the heel, Zoom in the forefoot. The upper is almost seamless, so your chances of a blowout are virtually eliminated and the Flywire gives it that ultimate lightweight strength and support through the midfoot and heel. And it’s Considered. It’s a beauty. We can’t wait for people to discover it.
And finally, what is your favorite ACG memory?
I’ve been at Nike for almost 15 years and I’ve been connected to ACG for every one of them. But my greatest memory is actually way before that when I was a student and we had a ski race in Jackson Hole. I walked into this little outdoor shop and there was this amazing shoe that I couldn’t take my eyes off. It was grey with accents of pink and purple. It kinda looked like a running shoe, but had lugs and outriggers so I thought it had to be for hiking! I picked it up and was amazed how light it was. I bought that Caldera on the spot and have been hooked ever since. I still have it. The collar foam is all crumbled and the whole thing is old and beat to crap but that’s where it all started for me. It’s personal.
