HISTORY OF SKATE SHOES - PT 1

First skate shoes you remember?
Vans were the first shoes I saw people skate in.
We had a local shop where you could custom order any color combo you wanted and when we saw Stacy with red and blue, I ordered one shoe like his and the other yellow and blue. My pops thought I was crazy and said they looked like clown shoes, but I was stoked big time.

Who were your idols?
Waldo Autry was way rad in my book cuz of the baldy shoy which was made into a sticker for Tunnel. Tay Hunt was really good then and Lee Gahimer from the badlands in the early days. I saw Kevin Anderson go frontside which no one did at that time and blew not only my mind but everybody there. From him I met Doug Schneider then later at pipeline a lot of people who saw me at baldy or l-pool. I met Stacy Peralta at my  junior high for a Pepsi demo and took them to two pools right by my school a block away. That was rad for sure....

Coolest skate shoes of all time?
I think the coolest of the ‘70s were Nikes for sure. I was so jealous, Lance rides for them now. I used to get 10-15 pairs a month in the old days in every possible color and leather ones in white. Those shoes rule. In the ‘80s after they quit making Blazers for Air Jordans, I went to Converse, the ole punk rock standard. Either those or high top Vans. In the ‘90s since I rode for Vans more than Converse it was back and forth until the first Warp Tour, then I rode for Vans again after Steve Van Doren questioned my loyalty.

Any final questions?
Where is the SALBA shoe?
