LUXURY SNEAKERS!

In 1921, the inimitable Guccio Gucci founded The House of Gucci in Florence, crafting leather accessories for horsemen. Following a spell in London working at the famous Savoy Hotel, Guccio was inspired by the beautiful valises (suitcases) of wealthy tourists and it occurred to him that he could apply his talents to making leather travel trunks. Soon the horse-drawn carriage would give way to the automobile and likewise his attention shifted from equestrian trappings to beautifully crafted luggage.

When Guccio shuffled off his mortal coil in 1953, he left his sons at the helm and soon after, they opened their first store in New York. The new direction propelled Gucci into New York society and the Hollywood elite. Their establishment in the mainstream consciousness is often credited to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who was constantly photographed with her Gucci shoulder bag.
