THE SCOOP ON FAKE SNEAKERS

A few issues back we caught up with Richard Stanwix, Head of Brand Security for Nike. Richard’s job, amongst other things, is to catch and prosecute anyone who counterfeits, sells and distributes fake Nike apparel and footwear. As you will read in this new interview, the incidence of counterfeit goods is going up quicker than the price of petrol, and the quality is getting better as well.

As many of you use eBay and buy shoes online, Richard also has some sobering news - up to 98% of shoes at any given time may be fakes. Just remember that statistic next time you’re awake in the middle of the night in your undies bidding for a bargain pair of jordans. On the other hand, if you’re tempted to make some easy money by answering one of those emails promising bulk shipments of $20 supreme dunks that you can flip for a tidy margin, think again.

Someone out there is watching and the consequences can be severe.
