DAMON WAY - DC SHOES

How’s your brother, Danny?
Beat up, injured and always in a state of recovery.

He’s bomb dropped out of helicopters and hurdled the Great Wall of China. Are you ever worried Danny might be a bit nuts?
I have seen him do whatever it takes to get the job done on a skateboard for most of my life, so I am pretty used to it.

At one time you suffered a pretty serious injury yourself, do you think about how things might have turned out different for you?
If I did not get injured I would have known life as a pro skateboarder with the high likelihood of a fierce competitive rivalry with my brother, something we shared when we were kids. I am sure that the outcome of my life would be entirely different than it is today.

Do you feel you replaced your urge for sporting competition with business?
I do not think that urge translated so much into business as it did into creative drive towards apparel design in the earlier years of the business, mostly with Droors and Dub.

I know you are bit of an architecture freak and an art buff... Who do you dig and why?
There are a number of architects that I really like new and old… It is hard to say what my favourites would be, but if I had to choose two from different eras I would go with Tadao Ando and Louis Khan for their amazing use of concrete within the structures that they create. With art my favourites for the most part have been a number of the artists that I have had the opportunity to work with. Outside of that, other artists that I really like, including graphic artists, are Barry McGee, Jeff Koons, Alex Grey and Peter Saville… All four of which are incredible at their respective mediums, but so completely different.
