ACG FEATURE - PART TWO
Tell us about the Tallac you designed back in 2003?
The Tallac was cool because the brief was ‘the lightest hiking boot of all time’. 15 ounces was the goal. Visually, they said they wanted something that would revolutionize the industry.
That sounds easy. ‘Hey Peter, can you revolutionize the industry again please!’
Ha! There was some inspiration from the Hyperflight which had some structural elements of a bird that helped ankle inversion and rollover. There was also a tennis shoe that had some welded support on the upper, but what really drove the project was the 15-ounce limit. The lighter you can get it, the faster you can go and the longer distance you can cover, so it’s a pretty good goal.
Did you give it the ripstop fabric?
Yeah, the ripstop actually was inspired by some backpacks I had seen and I thought it was pretty cool. At the time, marketing was a little unsure. They thought it was a little too crazy (laughter).
