ACG FEATURE - PART TWO

When you first joined Nike, did you go back and look at the archive and soak up the ACG stuff?
Do you need that foundation of knowledge to move forward? For me it was pretty easy, I was always a Nike-head and I’ve always wanted to work in the ACG group ‘cause it just felt like the most appropriate place within Nike for me. For the first few years we didn’t look back too much as a group, but with the revitalisation, I started looking back at the heritage of ACG. The last three years now I’ve been concentrating on figuring out the history and collecting archival pieces of apparel as well as some of the footwear.

So given that next year’s the 20th anniversary, are we seeing extra love for your domain? Yeah, definitely. 1989 was when the company was integrated as a sub-brand. There had been some product previously that was ACG branded but that was things like the ACG version of the Pegasus running shoe for example. The company’s embraced that, particularly from the Sportswear side of things.

Which are the key pieces in your eyes?
We definitely consider Considered (laughs) to be where our heart is. We have gone from creating totally 100% Considered garments with limited production numbers to refocusing our efforts into making our biggest volume pieces more Considered, which is where we can make the most difference. For example, the Climatellic Shell is storm-fit and uses recycled polyester and that’s our pinnacle piece. The Vertical Shell with a full colour digital print of the climbing rope on the inside of the internal laminate is an industry first and our most iconic style from the collection. One thing we won’t do is sacrifice performance for the sake of making it a little extra Considered, you know? The ultimate is the perfect blend of a little footprint and the best performance.
