MEET THE FREAKS / LONDON / 26.07.07
Sneaker Freaker teamed up with SIZE? for our second-ever event in London - this time we busted open the champagne on Issue 10, deep in the underground bowels of the Covent Garden store on Neal St. Sneaker types from all over London were invited to an initial preview at 6.30, before the doors were thrown open to welcome the riff raff and hoi polloi of the nation's capital.
Guests received a special tote bag which held a cluster of goodness, including copies of the mag, tee shirts, A1 posters, vegemite, an Office Rockers SF CD, keyrings, iPod cases, stickers, shoe lasts, toejam, a scarf and some other stuff... almost everyone came away with some pork on their fork, not to mention more than enough booze to sink a Polish battleship.
The launch was also the debut of the one-of-a-kind Sneaker Freaker vending machine, where for a fistful of goldies or a fiver, you can take home your very own copy of the mag without hitting up the staff! For those with a keen eye, there was also a mini-installation of sorts, with an oversize wallpaper vista of the Sneaker Freaker office glued to the upstairs wall in the store. Peep it with your own eyes to see where the mag is made and your chance to spot some upcoming surprises.
Not only that, but anyone purchasing a mag from Covent Garden will go into a draw to win a copy of every single version of Sneaker Freaker we have every published, including the insanely hard to find Issue 1 - last seen on eBay going for over 150 smackers. All up, that's something like 24 covers, including some gold foil covers we forgot we even made! Howzat for a prize?
Thanks to all the SIZE? staff and to Ruffs for the opportunity to put on this mega-bash, and a particularly boisterous shout out to Gary and Joe and the team at Rosie's for all their help. And to Nikolai and Bluey and all the out of towners - we doffs our lids... keep your laces loose!
