Custom sneakers are ART, that’s the end of the story right there. People often ask me ‘why paint shoes?’ Well frankly, the day when I could answer that question truthfully has long since passed. Perhaps it’s because it combines a few things I’m passionate about, possibly I just wanted to have shoes nobody else did, or maybe it’s just because a beautiful girl told me she thought it was cool.
In any case, that brings us to my guide for anyone who wants to start painting shoes. This is really an overview of the basic essentials required for you to get started painting your own sneakers. It’s definitely not the final word as there are only so many techniques you can fit onto one pair of shoes.
This pair has been designed specifically for the purpose of illustrating as many different techniques as possible without totally sacrificing the aesthetic value of the end result. It is important to remember that sometimes less is more and not all of us had a ‘how to’ guide to learn from, so don’t be afraid to try new things and maybe then you can show us older guys some new shit! Regardless, it’s time I polish off this bottle of Vodka, put down my Swamp Thing book and get down to business.
