Your clothing line is like a homage to Versace, Chanel, D&G and Hermes circa the 1970s. The colours and vibrancy of the pieces are so bold... i kinda figured that the Nike collab would have followed suit but the Blazers seem a little tamer than what your art or fashion line depict.
That’s the thing about me, you think you have me pegged... and then I do a 180 degree turn! I am always changing, my tastes and ideas morph by the minute. Just because I did something one season, doesn’t mean I want that to represent me forever. The same thing with graffiti – does a wall I painted in 1996 have to define my art of today? I say no! I wanted to stay fresh and clean for the Blazer and do something unexpected.
You’ve said before that you are ‘a luxury brand kind of girl’, are you big into the vintage shoe game as well?
Yes! I have been collecting sneakers for over 15 years and some of my rare styles are showcased in Bobbito’s book ‘Where’d You Get Those?’ – I think I have 30 or so shoes in there! Unfortunately he credited me with my government name and no one knew they were mine, unless you are familiar both with my collection and my personal business. In fact, he credited me as ‘the skippy queen’ and I was pissed. I actually collect women’s sneakers Bobby, not skippies! Not that I wasn’t happy to help my old friend Bob out, but damn! I also am an avid eyewear, vintage designer and weird t-shirt collector. And I am working on my second book, which is on sunglasses...
