2006 - BEST OF THE BEST SNEAKERS

Converse John Varvatos All-Star

When Woody asked me for my favorite sneaker of 2006 I knew which one I would choose immediately. I actually thought so quick I second guessed myself and had to go over this years heaters again, just to make sure, cuz some sneaker dork is gonna call me on it.... "Rob! How can you say the Alife tennis ball pump is your favorite - you don't even have one!"

So going through this years hot footcovers that stood out to me... Volcano dunks, Scarface AF1, CLOT AM87, Jordan 5 retro, HUF Quakes! But it’s all the same just better colors and fabrics. FINE. It’s impossible to choose. But one that stood out to me was the John Varvatos Converse All Star. I can't remember the last time someone fucked with the number of eyelets – this jammy has 19 on each side! Not to mention, it’s such an iconoclassic, altruistic model as the Chuck Taylor All Star. All the different size circles remind me of early ‘80s bubble graffiti. Then let’s take a black bungie cord to suck up all the spaces and give it the added feature of a slip-on.

The only thing I would have added was the toe smile like on the Jack Purcells and wrote ‘Hepdog Rules!’ or ‘Being Awesome’ on them. Say something I don't like!
