AARON ROSE x DC ARTIST SERIES

You’ve said that the most important aspect of the project was actually the fanzine which promoted the idea of ‘doing creative stuff’ to kids. Why do you think that message is so necessary? Aren’t kids experimenting enough?
I don’t think anybody experiments enough! Myself included. That book was made as a little reminder that it’s really not that difficult to do amazing things very quickly and cheaply. Sometimes we all get bogged down by this feeling of “I would do this if only...” and I say screw that! Just go out and do it. In my experience, if you take the first step the universe steps in to help.
I remember getting a copy of the Anarchist’s Cook Book that was reputedly banned years ago... it kinda reminded me a little of your DC fanzine - did you ever see a copy of that?
Oh yes! I’m glad you say that. That is exactly what I was going for. I collect all those government secret/counter-surveillance books. They have been a big influence on me.
I guess the Internet has taken over those cult underground publications.
Do you feel like the variety of experiences kids have online encourages social creativity or stifles it?
I think it’s a little of both. There’s tons of great information on the Internet. I see great things there all the time. Things that inspire me to follow further... I guess my only problem with the web is that sometimes people just stop there. You can Google your way to the information, but you can’t Google your way to the experience. The experience is the most important part! And in order to experience, you have to step away from the computer and interact in real life. At least for now.
